At Walk in the Light International we believe we can impact West Africa, one nation, one community, and one child at a time.

  • Loving West Africa, empowering people, following Jesus.

  • Walk in the Light International is committed to changing this next generation and impacting their lives with the gospel. In a nation where 1 in 4 people live in extreme poverty, we believe we can impact the nation and break the cycle of poverty one community at a time. We partner with local leaders in rural communities to bring lasting sustainable change through education for children, access to clean water, basic healthcare, economic empowerment, and spiritual discipleship. At Walk in the Light International we believe we can impact West Africa, one nation, one community, and one child at a time.

  • Christ-Led
We follow Jesus as Lord in all we do, seeking His voice, surrendering to His will, and trusting Him to bring lasting transformation.

    Transparency
We walk in the light before God and others, stewarding every resource with integrity, honesty, and accountability.

    Courage
We move forward in bold faith, trusting God in the face of uncertainty and stepping into hard places with confidence in His promises.

    Pioneering
We go where others say it cannot be done, because we serve a God who makes the impossible possible. We build wherever he calls, trusting that He goes before us to make a way.

    Honor (Dignity & Respect)
We recognize every person as created in the image of God and serve with humility, compassion, and deep respect for the communities He loves.

  • Loving West Africa

We partner with local villages to develop self-sustaining, community-led solutions that address physical, mental, social, and spiritual poverty. By walking alongside leaders and families, we strengthen communities from within and build foundations for long-term transformation.

    Empowering People

Our strategy is rooted in presence. God willing, we are working toward partnership in all 45 provinces of Burkina Faso—establishing strong, local leadership and equipping men, women, and children to use their gifts and fulfill God’s calling on their lives.

    Following Jesus

Burkina Faso experiences one of the largest natural work migrations in the world. As people move throughout West Africa, we believe the gospel moves with them. By raising up disciples who make disciples, we trust God to expand His Kingdom far beyond village borders and into some of the hardest-to-reach places.

  • God willing, by 2045 we will partner with one thriving community in each of Burkina Faso’s 45 provinces, believing for nationwide transformation for Christ.

Who We Are

Our Story

Walk in the Light International began with a life-changing encounter that opened our eyes to the realities of extreme poverty in Burkina Faso. Shortly after we were married, we learned about villages where literacy rates were as low as 22%, homes were built from clay without electricity or plumbing, and access to healthcare was nearly nonexistent. What we saw and experienced deeply stirred our hearts. Instead of taking a graduation trip to Europe, we traveled to Burkina Faso—and that decision changed the course of our lives.

While there, we asked community leaders what they believed their greatest need was. Their answer was clear: education for their children. Without education, they felt their children had no future. Partnering with village elders under the shared commitment, “We will wash our front if you wash our back,” we worked together to build the first three-classroom school. What we thought might be a short-term project quickly became a lifelong calling.

As we walked alongside the community, we realized that education alone was not enough. Children cannot thrive if they are dehydrated, malnourished, severely sick, or required to work to help their families survive. WITLI grew into a holistic community development organization, addressing clean water, healthcare, economic empowerment, and spiritual discipleship to break the cycle of poverty at every level.

Today, our vision remains the same: to see healthy, sustainable communities in Burkina Faso thriving and raising up the next generation of leaders.

Where we work

Burkina Faso, meaning “Land of Upright People,” is a landlocked nation in West Africa about the size of Colorado. Home to nearly 19 million people, it is one of the youngest countries in the world, with a median age of just 17 and nearly half the population under the age of 15.

While French is the official language, over 90% of the population speaks native tribal languages, reflecting the country’s rich ethnic diversity. Despite its vibrant culture and deep spiritual heritage, Burkina Faso faces significant challenges. Only about 20% of the population has access to basic sanitation, infant mortality rates remain among the highest in the world, and preventable diseases such as malaria, typhoid, and meningitis continue to threaten families. Most communities are rural, relying on subsistence farming, and many lack access to quality education, clean water, and healthcare.

Many families rely on subsistence farming for survival, and economic instability, displacement, and regional insecurity have placed additional strain on already vulnerable communities. As a highly migratory nation, people frequently travel across West Africa in search of work, carrying both the weight of hardship and the opportunity for broader influence.

At Walk in the Light International, we partner with local leaders to pursue holistic, Christ-centered transformation—strengthening education, expanding clean water and healthcare access, empowering families economically, and raising up disciples who make disciples. Our vision is to see thriving communities established across all 45 provinces, impacting West Africa for generations to come.

Until Earth looks like Heaven.
